In an effort to bridge the vast digital political information gap in Nepal and develop a well-informed voting culture, Mero Pratinidhi (translates to ‘My Representative’ in English) aims to provide information about candidates for any upcoming local, federal, and state-level election.

• Candidate Profiles
  Mero Pratinidhi is developing candidate profiles that feature key information including candidates’ education, political history, achievements and recognitions, vision, and concrete action plans for the upcoming election. Each profile also provides additional links to the most important and relevant resources (manifesto copies, websites, social media, articles, and interviews) for further research.


• Compare Candidate Tools
  Candidate Profiles are standardized and our website provides voters with a tool to conveniently compare candidates with one another side-by-side.


• Search & Filter Tools
  Our website provides voters with tools to shortlist candidates based on the election positions and locations. They have the ability to filter candidates based on their Election Constituencies and other criteria such as Age, Gender, and Political Parties


• Accessibility
  Mero Pratinidhi features candidate information in both English and Nepali

Only by bridging this information accessibility problem, we begin to eliminate the existing poor voting culture that is dominated by the regressive family/community affiliation-based voting and transform it into a better voting culture where votes are cast based on the merits and vision of the candidates.

It is extremely difficult to find basic information on the candidates digitally or otherwise:

• Whatever little information is available is highly dense - lengthy and mostly irrelevant to what the average voter is willing to consume and able to comprehend.
• Information is non-centralized and non-standardized which makes it challenging to access and make sense of, especially while trying to compare candidates with one another.
• Information availability is asymmetrical - A handful of popular candidates’ details are widely available whereas there is little to no data on most of the other candidates.

Each candidate profile is built using data provided by the candidates themselves. They fill in a dedicated form where they submit their information and sign an acknowledgment that the data provided is accurate and legitimate.

As new candidates declare their candidacy for the election, Mero Pratinidhi’s extensive volunteer network will identify and reach out to candidates urging them to submit their data. Likewise, Mero Pratinidhi’s media team will create targeted content to inform and encourage new candidates to connect with us and submit their data.

Existing Candidate Profiles on Mero Pratinidhi:

Currently, Mero Pratinidhi features some Candidate Profiles from local-level elections with the information provided by the politicians themselves. We built these profiles during concept validation; in the process, we have used the insights and feedback received from the politicians to design our information submission form in a way that is quick and easy to fill.

Currently, Mero Pratinidhi also features profiles of politicians that were developed as a result of secondary research from legitimate sources. Young volunteers were educated about the election process in Nepal and given skill development training in primary & secondary research, data collection, and translation. These partially filled profiles are practical outputs of those training exercises

The Mero Pratinidhi family consists of more than 80 members across 19 districts in Nepal - a list that is continually increasing. The core team is based in Kathmandu and each district has a District Ambassador that is managing the Local Volunteers.

The core leadership and District Ambassadors are educating young people about the importance of informed voting and training them in communication and research skills. This way, we are empowering the youth to be politically responsible and providing them with the tools to successfully identify and encourage potential candidates to get featured on our website.
